Why do some Marbelite pools fade or etch over time?
Fading, etching, and discolouration are almost always caused by water chemistry, not the plaster itself. Etching in particular happens when calcium hardness or pH is too low — the water becomes “calcium hungry” and draws calcium directly out of the marbelite, leaving white blotching or streaks. Because this comes down to ongoing water balance rather than a manufacturing defect, it falls outside our product guarantee.
How do I prevent fading and etching on my Marbelite pool?
Test your source water before filling, and test weekly afterward for pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, chlorine, stabiliser, and metals. Keep calcium hardness between 220–400 mg/l and pH between 7.4–7.6, always add chemicals via the weir (never directly into the pool), and avoid floaters and solid pool covers. Water chemistry is the single biggest factor in how long your Marbelite finish stays looking new.
